about

Stephen EvEns releases new track A Tree from forthcoming album Here Come the Lights, the track is self-produced at Brixton Hill Studios and mastered with Sean McGee (Abbey Road) will be released December 15 via Onomatopoeia (Hurtling, William D. Drake, Crayola Lectern)

This kaleidoscopic, psych-rock offering is accompanied by EvEns signature indie style character vocals, in this exotic, improvisational and celebratory track. As climate change reaches the top of the agenda, EvEns celebrates the most natural, life-giving resource that surrounds us, as he meditates on the environment and its preservation.

The celebratory and joyful feel of the track is highlighted through EvEns walks with his dog Rudy during lockdown, which reignites his natural yearning, and appreciation of nature, and the importance of escaping the stresses and strains of the modern world, into the wilderness.

lyrics

Come take a walk for I’ll be at your side don’t you worry for I shall take the lead.
Give it time to open up your mind you’ll be flying like the geese and ducks before.
An entrance clears as if from nowhere, magnets pulling at your hooves.
Open your eyes to seas of colour and you dive in.
All lights alive,
dark muddy waters.
Here comes the stink.
Wind change.
What’s that?
Joy implosion up ahead.

Off you run, through the undergrowth. I’m so happy. As much as I can be.
I think I’ll try to freeze a bit of time if I try hard we might never have to leave.
A.C. Newman channels my mind with the battle for straight time.
Reality is only so strong but brings me back with a thump.
He’s full of tails but keeps on running.
Don’t leave me here.
Clearing up ahead!
Clearing up ahead!

Let me off the lead,
Take me to the trees,
This is life amongst the worms and seeds, snails and fleas,
dragonflies that breed will soon be dead.

Is that the time? We must be on our way.
This perfect picture will soon be from my mind.
I’d like to tell that stupid boss man that he can stick his job.
If all I had to do all day was sing this song my friend.
I’d be content, I’d be just fine.
SO YOU CAN KEEP YOUR DISCOTHEQUES!

Let me off the lead,
Take me to the trees,
This is life amongst the worms and seeds, snails and fleas,
dragonflies that breed will soon be dead.

about

Stephen EvEns UK

He has spent most of his days touring here and there with minor indie celebrity. He has for now shunned the tourbus lifestyle for a wander through his own songbook for a change. Armed with a battered guitar, a casiotone and a few pedals Stephen presents songs that mix the likes of Yo La Tengo & Ivor Cutler with broken friendships and human error. ... more
